The Buffalo Brues Podcast. Podtoberfest. That's what I called this.
SPEAKER_01Podtoberfest?
SPEAKER_00Podtoberfest. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Love it, love it, love it.
SPEAKER_00So we got together tonight. So we're actually watching WWE Money in the Bank on the uh on the television here. Um Women's, what is this, the women's world title match?
SPEAKER_01This is the women's world title match. Also a triple threat match.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Yeah. So we got together because Yomaz uh does not drink um Oktoberfest or Fest beers or Mirtsens or Not at all. Because uh she doesn't particularly care for things that are too malty. And so we've enjoyed some some malts. Now our glasses are empty because we're gonna try some things. So you got the dimple mug from the Oktober Oktoberfest, which is Autark Brew House in North Buffalo. Collab with um Briar Brothers that they do every year, and actually the new ones out. I should have brought I should have got the Stein from up top there. There's uh there's a stein that I have from last year.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah.
SPEAKER_00But the dimple mug works just fine. And we've had a few of them so far tonight. Um Iinger, which is has been around since like 1877. They're one of the OGs. Uh we had some uh some beer cheese that was made with Big Ditch Oktoberfest, and then um kind of been going down the line of of uh different beers tonight. So now I bought four more out here because I'm gonna let you have the pick of what we're gonna serve up here, but I figure we can take an opportunity to uh enjoy a couple of these here while we're talking about dinner and what's going on on the television here as well. But what did you wanna what did you want to start with?
SPEAKER_01I was thinking we'll start with the Von Trapp.
SPEAKER_00Von Trapp Bruing Oktoberfest lager.
SPEAKER_01Little taste of Austria.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um so yeah, they're uh Austr um Austrian influenced, and then uh they are out of Stowe Vermont. We actually earlier in our um look at that early in the in the uh uh Barely Getting Started series that we're doing right now, we had a collaboration with um Von Trapp and Vijn Hanner, which uh is one of the ones that's on the table here as well. So the Von Trapp, they they do some excellent work, really bringing in some of the cultural flavors. Yeah, I'm gonna get the uh Disney Das Boot Das Boot from uh from Disney World. There you go. Alright. That's one of the lighter ones.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I like that.
SPEAKER_01That's good.
SPEAKER_00It's more of a toasty, a little bready.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01More of a not like uh like a sit and saver kind of beer, more like a I don't want to say quite a crushable beer, but like kind of close. Right. If you get my drift.
SPEAKER_00This is one of the ones that you could drink, like if you're gonna if you're going in and you're going Oktoberfest for the day, yeah, and you got a hold of this one. This could easily be one that uh it's it's light enough, it's you know, lightly, again, lightly toasty, bready, uh, and it's not too overpowering where you doesn't feel like it's gonna fill you up.
SPEAKER_01Right, yeah. You can go and eat schnitzel to your heart's content.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so tonight we did porch schnitzel. Uh we did the port schnitzel, the side of the uh creamy uh mashed potatoes, did the Yukon golds, and then some garlic green beans, and then left the um left the uh almonds out because one of the things I'm gonna serve up here in in short order is uh there's an almond, like a oh, I guess like a uh what like a daskuchen, or what do they call that for for cake for for Germany. Funny thing is like one of the top five regions of the world that the podcast is downloaded is in is actually in southern Germany.
SPEAKER_01Like Bavaria?
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01No way. And I have from Bavaria.
SPEAKER_00Right and uh we get a a pretty decent following from Bavaria, and I just don't and I've never had anybody message the podcast that you know says that they live, but we every episode you look at it and we get these downloads from this one area in southern Germany. So I don't know, we're we're popular there, but we're appreciative.
SPEAKER_01Right. No, reach out, we want to hear from you. But yeah, it's a beer too.
SPEAKER_00And then uh yeah, so we we enjoyed a little dinner here and you know, doing watching uh watching money in the bank. It was either this or go to the hockey game. Uh I mean what'd you say the sabers are doing?
SPEAKER_01No, they're tied to one through one, so it's not too bad, but a power play. There's more beer here than there. That's beer is $29 there, so what? Oh yeah, and the beer because they have the beer sabers. It's $29 for a beer saber. Oh and they got a new one for tonight's game, too. I got a black and red one, so it's like they have a different one for a game now.
SPEAKER_00Oh man.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I I love I love now with uh the beer saber and then the bills have the beer horn. I have one of those.
SPEAKER_01I have a beer horn. You have a beer horn? Jocelyn got it from the homeover. She didn't even pay for it. Somebody bought it for her.
SPEAKER_00That's great.
SPEAKER_01Somebody she made a friend in line and they bought her beer, their beer horn.
SPEAKER_00Hey.
SPEAKER_01And then she came home with the commemorative uh labats that they have for the opening game. It's a special labat can unopened. So it's sitting on my wait, weren't they?
SPEAKER_00They weren't supposed to take those out of their uh stable.
SPEAKER_01They didn't open it, so she was able to walk right out with it. So I have it sitting on the shelf at home. It's a one in a million beer right there.
SPEAKER_00I remember one time, um time uh your mom and I, when we went on a cruise, they um where were we? I think we were in Tortola, and we were gonna walk back onto the ship with just the empty beer cans because it was kind of like our ticket stub of yeah having these beers from around the world. Right. I remember the security guy looking at us going, you want to bring an empty beer can on to the well, yeah, but we do this podcast in Buffalo. He's like, Well, you're not breaking any rule. Yes.
SPEAKER_01Right, right. That's exactly. She exploded a loophole. Right. It's not open, right? You can have exactly.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, so uh so yeah, this was pretty good. Nice, light, easy drinker. But what um what have you had tonight so far that you're that you've uh liked? I know we haven't tapped into too many of them.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I mean I like the big ditch. I kind of liked how like earthy and malty it was, I felt like. Yeah. That was my probably my favorite of the couple we've had so far, and the pumpkin that the pumpkin whiskey shot we did at the beginning was good. I know it's a beer podcast, but that's why right.
SPEAKER_00We we we are we're uh we enjoy the drinks, the spirits, we're big cocktail people, we're big foodies, so we talk about it all.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, but that that was they did a good job. Southern tier did a good job on that this year.
SPEAKER_00I'm in this they're in this part of the match here where there's two submission holes going on the same. So if one if she taps out, which one of them wins. You got the disarm her.
SPEAKER_01Is that just a race? Like, is that a wash?
SPEAKER_00Like she had the uh the Unileg grapevine on on her and then the disarm her from from Becky Lynch, but and now they're just exchanging headbutt. Nobody wins with a headbutt.
SPEAKER_01Nobody at all.
SPEAKER_00Nobody. Um, but yeah, earlier we had the uh the einger, which uh which is a classic to to Germany, brewed since 1877.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, this was this is um I like this. This is a real good one here.
SPEAKER_01Another reason Mom doesn't like hefe specifically, though, is the banana.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, she doesn't care. She doesn't care for a hefeweisen because of the yeah, the the proteins that they use that gives it the banana flavor. And I've said this a gazillion times on the podcast, but it's the same protein that is used in banana runs candy.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, and I love banana runs candy, so it's only fair that I love Hefeweizen.
SPEAKER_00Right. Um, but we have found that she does have an appreciation for Kolch.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes, we did find that.
SPEAKER_00If you get some good flavor colts, just smacking the crap out of her. Wow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, she's beating her up. It's just like my wife finally found a beer my wife likes. It's a miracle, and she's not a big beer person. Right. I'm gonna have to have uh gonna have to have that blueberry shandy shipped to my house and kegs. No, that was Labats you said, right? Yeah, Labats did a blueberry shandy. Nice. I don't know if they just did it for the bisons or what.
SPEAKER_00I don't know, you know, but you know, it seemed like some people were crossing over into the the craft beer game, you know, like when Gen C made that move and and they crossed over because uh for years it was Genesee Cremail and it was 12 horse and it was you know all those classics, and then they started crossing over into like specialty stouts and um so they've been having some some fun with things and now this you know depending on the year, you get the like right now, I think was the crayon orange is that what's popular right now?
SPEAKER_01Crayon orange because that's their fall-ish, like fall winter-ish beer.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, and then when I was um last weekend, when I was out in uh in about I went down to Rusty Nickel, had a bunch of the Oktoberfests down there. Um one of them was a barrel-aged from Brickyard. Oh, it was really nice. Yeah, uh, they did a nice job. Um, had the Oktoberfest from from Big Ditch, and then here she is again. There's that feud again.
SPEAKER_01Yep.
SPEAKER_00And then um, yeah, enjoying a few of the uh the beers around there, but then I went up to um what they call Hollow Fest up in Clarence Hollow. So really while it was up there, um my uh my friend Morgan, whose uh content on draft on uh Instagram, uh she was running that event this year, and while I was there I had the crayon apple from uh Genesee.
SPEAKER_01I didn't know that I wasn't aware they did a crayon apple.
SPEAKER_00I didn't mind it, it was a little sweet for my taste, like when beer gets crosses over too much into sweetness.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, more like a malt than a versus a beer.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, that was a little tough for me. But I I mean I finished it, it was alright. I I definitely wouldn't have more than one of those, though.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But I do like when the crayon orange comes out or the what's the one that we were still waiting to come back? Is it the pineapple?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, pineapple mango kosh. Yeah, because they switch them off. They do a pineapple kosh or a mango kolsch, they do one or the other every year. Yeah. On top of their regular grapefruit they do every summer.
SPEAKER_00These two are still trading here trying to get the.
SPEAKER_01I'm waiting for Liv to pop up somewhere. She's been gone for a bit.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, she spilled to the outside there, and she's been uh you know, with the camera work that they do eventually she's gonna pop up.
SPEAKER_01Oh, where did the table come from? Must have missed that. There's live.
SPEAKER_00Oblivion.
SPEAKER_01Oh, new champion. Live wins. Yep. You called it. Neither of them wins. I thought I I had a feeling she would win.
SPEAKER_00Look at the disappointment in the crowd. Not this again. Oh boy.
SPEAKER_01I had a feeling she would take it because they just want to put more heat on her.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah. I mean, that works. I mean, yeah, she loses in that match in Sao Paulo.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Um, or no, is it no?
SPEAKER_01No, some someone. Santiago, Chile, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Chile, not Chile. Chile, not Chilai.
SPEAKER_01Yes. Shout out Chilai, New York.
SPEAKER_00I joke about it. I mean, there's a, you know, there's a lot of properties to to Chilai, but they are the retail theft capital of Western New York.
SPEAKER_01Well, yeah. You're not wrong.
SPEAKER_00Very nice. Yeah, but uh good, you know, good dinner, something to play with. I broke out the uh broke out the uh German hat. I've got my uh my reading pro st my reading pros jerseys.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, all I've learned is I need to get more German gear.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, reading reading flying fins or flying feet fiends or something like that.
SPEAKER_01Um and then single A baseball, all right? Yeah, it's uh yeah, I think single A or high A or something like that. Whatever that is, and then Well there's there's single A, double A, triple A, Major League Baseball. So, yeah. So it's like the minors of the minors.
SPEAKER_00I gotta I gotta make sure I gotta go to more minor league games. I I love get I love the gimmick nights they do. I love them. Oh yeah, they do all sorts of stuff. They make it they make things fun. You may not even watch the game. I mean, watch for the foul balls. Well, right, especially if you're walking, you know, if you're sitting on the first baseline.
SPEAKER_01I went to hockey night and like five balls came in my direction on one night. It was like two weeks ago.
SPEAKER_00Oh wow.
SPEAKER_01I had to keep in the swivel the whole game. I'm like over here covering my beer.
SPEAKER_00Like, please don't having a conversation while you're locked in on home plate over here. Right, exactly. Right.
SPEAKER_01I'm trying to like talk to Dara and then my buddies with us too, and I'm trying to focus on like no, no, trying to chug it because I don't want to waste any beer, but I'm like, this is nine dollars.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_00I've seen some things before. I've seen broken bats go in the crowd, I've seen like dads doing dad things, you know, like you know, like back in the day when you know mom would throw her arm out, uh, right. She would hit the brakes really hard.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Um I've seen some seen some crazy things on video. She'd over dad protecting the kids. Mom's protecting the kids too. I mean, no nobody's immune to it.
SPEAKER_01The craziest story I have from a baseball game that I've been to, uh, it was at a bison's game. It was years ago now, probably like five years ago plus now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01It was like a day game or whatever. I think I had off during the day, so I was like, screw it. Tickets are like 10 bucks, I'll go. And uh they hit a foul ball, and there was like seagulls or whatever, like collecting, like they were like in the stands or whatever. Yeah. The guy killed a seagull with a foul ball. He hit the foul ball, it hit the seagull mid-flight, and he just died. Like that. Who was the Brandy Johnson hitting the bird?
SPEAKER_00Brandy Johnson, yeah. Randy Johnson was. Yeah, he threw this pitch and just nothing but just feathers. Just wow.
SPEAKER_01But it was just it was crazy to experience, like, yo, you're looking for the foul ball, and then all of a sudden you see a bird just collapse like a down fighter, and you're like, oh, wow.
SPEAKER_00Man down, man down.
SPEAKER_01Like, good God. I didn't know they was that hard. Like, I played baseball, they're hard, but I didn't know they'd kill something. But here we are.
SPEAKER_00I am looking up one statistic here because I feel like, you know, while we're here, I think we're gonna Oh, the for the uh the Weinenstappen. Yeah, by the Hashtopan Brewery maker of Weinhechtepanner.
SPEAKER_01The cool thing say that name three times fast.
SPEAKER_00Oh, see, no, no, thank you. Yeah. Like it took me a long time to say the word brossery. So to say that, you know, brossery. Brassery, and then you know, it came to do it with a lot of the places in Belgium, but um, yeah, I wanted to pull it up because I was trying, I can't remember the year. Because I will I think we'll pull this one up here next, but it's in Wikipedia, and this brewery has uh been brewing for over 900 years.
SPEAKER_01So you gotta be good to last that long. It was made by an abbot. Look at that.
SPEAKER_00Hey abbot.
SPEAKER_01Well, I mean, it's it's cool to see too, because that's the thing, is most churches and like um abbeys and whatnot, they would make their own beer. Right. They would all do it.
SPEAKER_00There we go. 1040. So they've been owned by the Bavarian state government since 1803.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00But they've been brewing since um since 1040.
SPEAKER_01Which would be like what, the Holy Roman Empire?
SPEAKER_00Like Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Like, good God.
SPEAKER_00Your mother just texted me and said she caught a barred owl on the bird owl. You mean a barn owl?
SPEAKER_01Or a bard. Bard owl. Oh, a bard? Yeah. She's been hearing it the last couple of weeks. Like a bard or like uh like jail bar.
SPEAKER_00Like yeah, the owl's like Antica. Alright, bring that Vine Hashtapanner over here. Weinheichtepanner festbeer. You will so this I believe is so it's imported, but it's bottled in South Carolina.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, they probably for the American system. So they probably import the kegs and then pour it out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, so look there for the but this is what you will you will not find a finer beer.
unknownWow.
SPEAKER_00A finer German beer.
SPEAKER_01That is multi.
SPEAKER_00That's probably my neighbors listening to the hockey game in the garage. Right. Oh, do they do that?
SPEAKER_01Second period probably just started, so that's another lighter one too. Right? I like that a lot though.
SPEAKER_00That's some that's clean German drinking right there.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it is. Super refreshing. Definitely, definitely a good beer for like a hot day.
SPEAKER_00Like yeah. Um, one of these days, one of these days I'll get to uh I'm hoping to get to Oktoberfest.
SPEAKER_01Taking a field trip to Germany.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah, you know, head out to Munich. Did you if you've ever seen aerial shots of it too? It's a it's wild because it's the largest cultural festival in Germany.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And if you watch it from the air, there's this big colorful, like a fairground. And then the entire city of Munich around it, just gray.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Well, wow. Yeah, they're an ultra modern city for the most part. My favorites when they start Oktoberfest and they beat the hell out of a keg because they tap it, they hand tap the keg. That's how they start the festivities.
SPEAKER_00Right?
SPEAKER_01I think if I'm not mistaken, it's a keg of this, if I'm not mistaken.
SPEAKER_00Could be. Um, there is, let's see here. I'm gonna look up on more fact here, the official beers of. I used to know them, but and I'm hovering way too close to my microphone.
SPEAKER_01It's like I'm gonna hear your uh ears of.
SPEAKER_00There we go. Fest music. Alright, so it's uh Augustiner, Hoffbrow. Okay.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we have Hoffbrow here.
SPEAKER_00Um Hacker Pishor, uh, Loen Brow, uh Palaner, and Spaten.
SPEAKER_01Okay, interesting. But it is a f they're all fest beers, though. They're all right.
SPEAKER_00So they're all um because what makes Oktoberfest, Oktoberfest is they're brewed within the Munich city limits.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_00Um these are not brewed in Bavaria. This is from Bayern Hastepanna, which is uh a different town in Germany, and then obviously um Iinger is from a different area as well. And it's the the funny thing is if you want to know where a beer is from in Germany, just with the exception of Kolsch, which comes from Cologne, right, everything is named after the either the state or the city that it's from. So like Hofbrow.
SPEAKER_01Hofbro, right, Hofbrow, right.
SPEAKER_00It's from the Hofbrow district. You know, Polaner's from the Hof, the uh Polaner district, Schmatten from the Schmatten district.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well in Weinhopanner is from the Vinhachtepanau district. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01We're gonna have to uh take a field trip to Hofbrow. I haven't been there yet. The one over here. The one in Buffalo? No, yeah, I haven't been there yet.
SPEAKER_00Oh, we gotta make that happen.
SPEAKER_01Kieran wants to go too.
SPEAKER_00We should do we should try to do that. Maybe we can do that at Christmas time when the Kindle Barn's going on.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, that'd be cool. That'd be fun. That'd be fun. They have their special Christmas beers. I know they do like a gingerbread beer though. See now here's
SPEAKER_00The seats I was telling you about here. They always have the celebrities. So there's whoever the agent of shadows. I don't even know who these two are.
SPEAKER_01It looks like uh Austin Theory wannabe.
SPEAKER_00He's the only apparently he's the only uh that's Drew McIntyre.
SPEAKER_01Well yeah, Drew McIntyre did that whole show. No.
SPEAKER_00Oh, okay. So it's a WWE film.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Alright, well. No wonder I don't know who these people are. Oh my god, that's PS Magnet. Put his ass out of doing that. Wow. It's just all kinds of WWE wrestlers in this thing. Was it Joe Henry? Did you see Booker T? Booker T, Joe Henry. Oh, wow. Nikita Lions, I think I saw it here too.
SPEAKER_01God, it's like remember when they used to make those horror movies with Kane back years ago? Right. Those are so weird. Right.
SPEAKER_00Now we're oh, that's the other thing. You know, that'd be a good way to wind, you know, wind down this episode here as they're getting ready to get into the men's money in the bank match, which I think would uh finish out the night here.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it would.
SPEAKER_00Seems like it. Um yeah, because they got about 35 minutes before they go off the air. But um, you know, we're into spooky season.
SPEAKER_01Now we are. It's mom's favorite time of year.
SPEAKER_00Right? Yeah, she's huge into Halloween, huge into spooky season. Right. But are you are you a spooky fan? Are you a horror fan?
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. No, I used to you can thank her dad. I can thank her dad for that one because I used to watch all those B movie horrors all the time at like two in the morning when I'd be at the house overnight.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_01Oh god, what do we got? Killer Clowns from Outer Space, that's one.
SPEAKER_00Your mother loves that.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, don't turn that on with her there. No clowns from that's how I saw the uh the Tim Curry It for the first time was with him. I saw the miniseries when I was with him. Okay. So they're not really a B movie horror, but still. Sure. Um Saw the first Halloween with him. So yeah, no, he he helped me with that. Like he helped her. And then I would watch some stuff with her too as I got older. Uh Nightmare on Elm Street was a big one too.
SPEAKER_00Nightmare on Elm Street is is unmatched for me. Um I'm scared.
SPEAKER_01It scares the hell out of me to this day. Yeah. Still, all these years later.
SPEAKER_00Nightmare on Elm Street.
SPEAKER_01Like I watched it all the time, but like it still scares the hell out of me.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Three with the Dream Walkers, that's my favorite.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's the best one by far. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Um it's cool seeing a young Johnny Depp in the first one.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And and knowing that it was like one of his earliest roles that he ever did. Like a second ever role or something like that. Yeah, next to what was it, 21 Jump Street or 21 Jump Street, I think.
SPEAKER_01The original one, yeah. Yeah. Yeah, no.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, that's you know, the horror franchises are just, you know. One of the things she I think she wants to take in is um she's never watched the Evil Dead series.
SPEAKER_01Oh, I love the Evil Dead series.
SPEAKER_00Uh yeah.
SPEAKER_01The Evil Dead series. It's like funny but scary at the same time. Yeah. I love it. It's the best part about it.
SPEAKER_00So I I think she I think we're gonna shoot for that this season. And then we always find obscure things. We've we've done the uh insidious okay. I think minus the most recent one that came out maybe late last year, early this year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I heard it was okay. I guess.
SPEAKER_00Well, I think they beat that franchise to death.
SPEAKER_01It's just like the conjuring, too. The conjuring they've beaten to death, too. Yeah, it went from being like realism horror to like now they're leaning too far into the with sci-fi angle. I had this conversation at work with people that they ironically enough. Um because they're releasing, I guess, another one next year, like Blumhouse just did at the New York Comic-Con. They did their whole like movie listing for the year.
SPEAKER_00It's like um it's like what they did when they're like branching out um what's the series where it's like Annabelle and the nun? Yeah, that's the conjuring series. Okay. So yeah, I feel like that they're just they're getting too thin. Yeah, they're doing too much. They're getting out in the weeds way too much with it.
SPEAKER_01I saw they're making another. Did you see that curse of uh La La Lorna or La La Yorna?
SPEAKER_00Did you see the original?
SPEAKER_01Yes, that's what I'm saying. They're making another one.
SPEAKER_00So that was one of the better horror films I had ever seen.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00I didn't have high expectations for it.
SPEAKER_01No, I didn't either.
SPEAKER_00Uh but yeah, I like the idea that they're doing that because there were some there were some holes in near the end of that film where you're like, okay, where you could you could jump off here and and do a few things with it because it's just the the way that it was written, the way it was laid out.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, this one is supposed to be the revenge of Lalorna or something, I think is the name of it. I can see it.
SPEAKER_00So I can definitely see it.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'm just I'm just like I said, I saw Bloomhouse's near Comic-Con listing today, so that's funny that you bring it up because we were talking about this at work today, too. Yeah, I um they're doing another Cloverfield something or another, too.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I mean, but Cloverfield, I think, is just a I think Cloverfield's more of a concept, right?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, it's more of yeah, there's not like uh like a monster per se. It's kind of a like you said, a concept.
SPEAKER_00What was what was the one like one of them was like John Goodman? Yeah, that was 10 Cloverfield Lane.
SPEAKER_01That was that one.
SPEAKER_00Was that the one with yeah, that was the one they locked them in a bunker or whatever? Yeah, yeah. Um, yeah, was that was that the same movie also that in New York City where like supposedly whatever this monster has ripped the head off the Statue of Liberty and set the thing rolling down 36 anterior?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01Because at the end it was like they were like on the helicopter or whatever, and it was like some like kaiju looking thing, like it's like Godzilla. Like, what's happening here?
SPEAKER_00Like really playing up the uh really playing up the fantasy.
SPEAKER_01Right.
SPEAKER_00Um, yeah, I like I like a lot of shock horror. Um as much as I like Halloween, I hate that it's kind of stemmed off into like timelines. Because it's you know, now you're getting you're getting off into that like almost MCU kind of look to things where but I like I still like the season of the witch one of the Halloween three, the one that was only by itself.
SPEAKER_01I do, I like it, I enjoy it. I thought it was different.
SPEAKER_00Hmm. I'm always of the opinion like Halloween for the most part, until you get into the like I mean, obviously the Rob Zombie timeline is like insane. Yeah. And then the like what did they say, the H2O series where they did Halloween?
SPEAKER_01That was what, 99, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Oh no, no, yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_01Because H2O is 99, and then yeah. Yeah, and then they did it was the standalone zombie, and then they then John Carpenter decided to tie up the original series himself.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I I don't know. I never I don't know. I never cared for Season of the Witch, and I think it was probably the weaker one.
SPEAKER_01I think it might just be the catchy song from the commercial. Which is only in the commercial.
SPEAKER_00Which is only in the commercial.
SPEAKER_01No, I mean it's on this it's on the movie a couple times too, but it's a silver shamrock song, yeah. Because that's the whole premise is the masks are supposed to take over these kids and stuff like that.
SPEAKER_00You know what I'm thinking of is I'm thinking of Halloween. Because Halloween, so the Halloween has that original, like dee dee dee dee dee dee. You're right. But every movie has a little bit of a different They have a jingle or like a twist on it. Yeah, a little twist on it.
SPEAKER_01Like Halloween 2 is like that more like 80 synth sound version of it. Right. Because it was getting a different decade.
SPEAKER_00One of the Halloween films had the most popular iteration of the original Halloween song, and it was never played once in the movie.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Yeah, it was um wasn't that the first one? No. No, no, no, no. The OG is the first one. Was it the fourth one, maybe? Yeah. Speaking of the Halloween. Right, speaking of the right. I'm trying to young OG. That's gonna bother me, though. I'm gonna have to look that up.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, there was what, yeah, it was the Halloween. It wasn't uh it wasn't Friday the 13th.
SPEAKER_01Yeah. Um, yeah, my buttons. No, Friday the 13th doesn't have any music. It's just Jason's just menacing in the corner.
SPEAKER_00Like I do want to watch the um I do want to watch the prequel that they're gonna do on Peacock with uh Linda Cartellini playing for his mom.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah. Yeah, uh Crystal Lake, it's called, I think. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I do want to watch that. It just came out too, didn't it? Like a lot of people who don't really understand Friday the 13th don't understand that. Like the in the first movie, he wasn't the bad guy. No, it was her. Her mom was the bad guy. And then the entire series spawned off of that. Because I mean, if you look at it and you're just watching it for what it is and you you know the history of Jason, you go, well, how does this spawn into an entire series? I mean, watch everything up until don't watch X.
SPEAKER_01Don't right, don't watch Jason X anybody. Ever. Well, I like Jason Takes New York, it's kind of campy, but fun.
SPEAKER_00Jason Takes New York is super campy, and it's it's fun for its own reason. Right. It's like when um what is it, the Highlander series? Yeah, uh like Highlander 3 we don't talk about because I screened it the whole timeline.
SPEAKER_01And you're like, is that there's uh there's something I haven't seen in a minute.
SPEAKER_00Only movie I ever watched where the credits started rolling, I went, that's it? That was the end.
SPEAKER_01Speaking of campy horror and be and B movies, because we were on that topic that I just talking just had me think about. Jennifer Aniston's earliest role. I seen that with I've seen that with uh my grandfather over the years. I've seen all those.
SPEAKER_00I had the uh I had the uh pleasure, and and that's the word I'm gonna use, is I had the pleasure of meeting Felicia Rose. Uh Felicia Rose from Sleep Away Camp. No way. And she signed- I have a signed picture of her down in the Mont Fortress podcast studio. It is a uh it says Meet Me Down by uh oh what was the what was the kid the line? Something like Meet Me Down by the Lake after the Oh crap. Well, I love how I 53-year-old brain, this is how it works. But it's like, yeah, it's something to the effect of meet me down by the lake after the blah blah blah.
SPEAKER_01Whatever. Oh, Cun's being rude.
SPEAKER_00But it's a it's that classic, like, you know, the Yeah, right.
SPEAKER_01It can't be like Yeah.
SPEAKER_00And uh yeah, I remember I remember meeting her, great conversation. She was such a great conversation. And that's the cool thing about Comic Cons, is like you bump into these people and it's just having just had just I mean, it's just like meeting some of these guys here. They're just they're human beings that are just they're performing. That's what these actors are doing.
SPEAKER_01Right. I love how Kevin Owens already has a hole in his head. Oh, yeah, he got uh took that hit recently.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, I but I you know I enjoy things like that. I mean, we you know, we were talking earlier about the Trish Stratus conversation with your mom.
SPEAKER_01It's like, you know, like I hope you know that if she ever goes to another Comic-Con again, I guarantee you, if you bring mom with her, she'll probably remember who she is, too. Could it could be Trish seems like that type.
SPEAKER_00Um yeah, I you know, your your mom, uh your mom was definitely made that day. I'm not gonna say a wrestling fan, but definitely a Trish Stratus fan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, definitely.
SPEAKER_00Um gotta say she had nothing but the nicest things to to say about that conversation. I mean, and it was great. And seeing the interaction before that with the family, there was a little girl that was there, and and um Yeah, this little girl didn't know really know who Trish was. I mean, dad was there for more of the reason than any. Right. But she connected with the with the child, and the child was like making a motion to she had a little stuffed animal in her backpack behind the table.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So she gave the little girl that stuffed animal, which might have been a gift to her from another fan.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00But she's paying it forward. And uh but just made that kid's that that little girl's night. And then we're up next and we're like, okay, this is why we love you. This this is it right here.
SPEAKER_01Right. Yeah. No, yeah, that's I mean, yeah. If only she did more of the indie stuff, so like you can actually take Bom to go see like a show somewhere. But she doesn't do a lot of the indie stuff. No, she's not on the indie circuit.
SPEAKER_00Um, Steph DeLander is is coming to uh WrestleBash.
SPEAKER_01Really?
SPEAKER_00Yes. Um, I've never seen her wrestle live. I've seen her, you know, obviously with a lot of the stuff she used to do with Cardona.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um and uh which makes it funny because Cardona is actually a former ECW champion. Um, that's true. So who knows? Maybe who put in the word or how that how that uh works to make the phone calls. So right.
SPEAKER_01I mean, hey, that's a good way for Cardona to show up too.
SPEAKER_00But um, so how do you how do you put with the things tonight? Uh little Beverage, it's almost dessert time. As soon as we hit the stop button here, we're going to dessert.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Maybe uh maybe finish it up with one more because this match will be up in. I mean, they're still making the introductions. I think this is the last one.
SPEAKER_01Right. Do we want to do um yeah, tropes on a PA? Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. We'll uh we'll finish up there. But hey, guys, folks, thanks for joining us for a little half hour like uh BS session about whatever. Our little Podtoberfest and watching money in the bank, and uh, yeah, we're just having a little bit of fun and getting rid of some of these Oktoberfest beers that I've got laying around that nobody's gonna drink except for for me until you came along and you said I love Oktoberfest. Good, let's go for it. Right. Little Schnitzel, a little potato and and beans, and now we're gonna head to some uh some uh daskooken and just to finish up for the night.
SPEAKER_01Sounds good to me. Cool, man.
